Tarutao National Marine Park
Discover the untouched beauty of Tarutao National Marine Park, a protected paradise of crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and lush tropical islands surrounding Koh Lipe.
Just a short boat ride from Koh Lipe lies one of Thailand’s most stunning natural destinations, the Tarutao National Marine Park. This protected paradise is made up of 51 islands surrounded by emerald waters, coral reefs, lush rainforests and peaceful white-sand beaches. It is a place where nature remains untouched and time seems to slow down.
A Place of Natural Wonder
Tarutao National Marine Park covers nearly 1,500 square kilometres of land and sea. The islands are covered in thick tropical forest, while the surrounding waters are home to colourful coral reefs and marine life. You will find mangrove forests, sea-grass beds, limestone cliffs and quiet coves waiting to be explored.
The park is rich in wildlife. Sea eagles soar overhead, monkeys swing through the trees, and sea turtles often nest along the beaches. The park also holds a fascinating history, once used as a penal colony during the 1930s. Old ruins and local legends add a touch of mystery to this natural paradise.

Visiting Tarutao
The park can be reached by boat from Pak Bara Pier on the mainland or from Koh Lipe. Accommodation within the park is simple, with ranger stations, camping areas and small bungalows available on some islands. There are no luxury resorts, which helps to preserve the park’s natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
The best time to visit Tarutao is from November to April when the weather is dry and the sea is calm. During the monsoon season, from May to October, some parts of the park are closed to protect the environment.
Koh Lipe is located at the southern edge of Tarutao National Marine Park and is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding islands. From Koh Lipe, visitors can take day trips, go snorkelling or simply enjoy the scenery. After a day of adventure, return to the island to relax on the beach and watch the sunset.
Tarutao National Marine Park is more than just a place to visit. It is an experience that connects you to the beauty of nature, the rhythm of the sea and the spirit of Thailand’s southern islands.
