Sunset Cruises

Sail into Koh Lipe’s breathtaking sunsets. Discover private charters, dolphin sightings, and eco-friendly cruising tips.

There is no better way to close a day in Koh Lipe than watching the horizon glow from the deck of a boat. As the sun sinks, the sky shifts through amber, rose, and violet, mirrored on the Andaman Sea. Whether you choose a rustic longtail boat or a sleek catamaran, a sunset cruise blends romance, adventure, and unforgettable island views.

Cruises to Try

Private longtail boats are a classic choice, costing around 2,500–3,500 THB for two to four hours. Local captains often anchor by hidden spots such as Koh Kra’s cliffs, perfect for watching the sun dip behind dramatic rock formations.

Luxury catamarans bring comfort, with prices from 1,800 THB per person. These trips often include drinks and canapés as you sail past Koh Adang, with the chance to see glowing plankton after dark.

For a more social option, group island-hopping tours combine snorkelling stops with sunset views for about 600–900 THB. They are lively, budget-friendly, and often include snacks and drinks.

Best Time to Cruise

The prime season runs from November to April, when calm seas and clear skies make for perfect evenings. Between May and October, the monsoon brings dramatic clouds and fewer boats, but the sunsets can be even more striking. Cruises usually depart one to two hours before sunset.

Eco-Tips

Book with operators who use low-emission engines and reusable cups. Check if national park fees are included, as they help fund conservation. Avoid single-use plastics on board and pack reef-safe sunscreen. Choosing responsible tours supports both the environment and local communities.

Costs and Wildlife

Prices vary from 600 THB for group tours to over 3,000 THB for private longtail charters. Along the way, you may see dolphins near Tarutao, sea eagles swooping for fish, or bioluminescent plankton sparkling in the wake between May and October. Binoculars and a polarising camera lens help capture the best views.
